Believe it or not natural supplements for stress and anxiety are a thing.

However, when I say supplements I don’t just want to talk about the kind you can find in a health food store or your local supermarket, I also want to talk about the natural ones as well. I am the kind of person to try as natural as I possibly can (all about the natural).

I know for one I have been stress out with one thing or another and felt the feelings of anxiety and worry about things that have not even happened yet.

I always wondered why I was over thinking things all the time and worrying about what actually turned out to be nothing, I did some looking around and wondered how I could deal with this.

So not only did I look at the natural way to deal with stress and anxiety I also looked into the best supplements you can use to help you along. These are things that have helped me and I hope they can help you too.

Get Plenty of (Sleep)

Tell you something, this sounds easy to do however, when you have a very overactive mind like me then you will understand how hard it can be. I can remember being led by my partners side and we have both gone to bed at the same time, after talking about our day for a bit we both turn over to go to sleep. Just like clockwork she is out like a light, me on the other hand, that’s another story.

Sometimes I was led there for hours keeping my eyes shut however, I just could not drift off. I was thinking about the day just gone and what had happened. There were literally 101 things going through my head and it was just no use. I even tried reading the most boring book I could find, no luck!

If you have ever had this issue you will understand that getting sleep is not as easy as it sounds. The crazy thing is I’m pretty sure that I am not the only one that has this problem.

What I have found the best way to overcome getting a good nights sleep is to turn off any laptops, tablets, phones and televisions about an hour before I go to bed. Phones have literally taken us over in the past few years (I can remember the days of just having snake on my phone) however, they are actually having a terrible affect on how our minds switch off at the end of the day.

It’s not just the phones, its pretty much all electronic devises as I said about, laptop, televisions and tablets as well. It has been said that the blue light emitted from these devises, restrain the production of melatonin which in the hormone in our body that controls your sleep and wake cycle, reducing our meletonin will make it harder for us to fall asleep and stay asleep.

So turn it off about an hour before you go to bed, I know it’s hard but it is totally worth your sleep to do so. Read a book, chat with your partner for an hour, ask about their day.

Trust me it will help.


Meditation

I can remember years ago when someone mentioned meditation to me I always thought of hippies and going into a fortune-tellers tent at a circus or something not sure why. I always thought it was a travellers’ thing to do. However, when I was properly introduced to meditation I was pleasantly surprised. I will be honest the first time I ever tried meditation I did feel a little weird and I think I fell asleep if I can remember right.

The things is I’m have now been using meditation as a form of not only stress and anxiety relief but for just a general understanding of my mind.Meditation

You see I used to and kind of still have a very over active imagination, some of you might be able to relate to this. So I needed something to help steer my mind and give it focus. This also helped me be a bit more self-aware.

Meditation as you can see is not just for the hippies, it has many benefits and something I have benefited from over the years now. Also, going back to getting enough sleep, I found that meditating helped control my thoughts, so when I was about to his the sack instead of my mind racing around I was able have a bit more control and rather than holding onto thoughts I was able to just let them go.

I have also found this has benefited in other areas of my life as well, such as my general outlook on life, emotional health, reduce stress, reduce anxiety and helped me have a better understanding of others as well.

So give it a go and I hope it helps you as much as it helps me.


Now lets get onto the Supplements……

I have however, tried to keep these as natural as possible.

Kalms

Have you ever been in a situation where you have dug yourself into such a hole, I mean mentally and you have no idea how to turn it around? This is how I was about 10 years ago I would say, through one thing or another. If you have ever been there you will understand.

You see I was stuck in a rut and worrying about anything and everything, I was then by my mother introduced to Kalms which helped me get out of a hole. I was able to sleep, I started to do relax and just distress. I am not kidding you, at the time these were the best thing since sliced bread.Kalms

Now I do not know how these will affect you, but what I do know is they helped me in my time of need. They include some ingredients such as Valerian Root which is a common ingredient in supplements and has been used for centuries as a herbal remedy.

Before using anything I would always recommend checking the ingredients and also checking with your doctor to make sure they are suitable. Just for your ease I have listed the ingredients below :

Each coated tablet contains:

45 mg Hop Strobiles (Hummulus lupulus L.)

33.75 mg of extract (as dry extract) from Valerian root (Valeriana officinalis L.)

(equivalent to 135 to 167 mg of Valerian root)

Extraction solvent: Ethonal 60%v/v

22.5 mg of extract (as dry extract) from Gentian root (Gentiana lutea L.)

(equivalent to 90mg of Gentiana root)

Extraction solvent: Ethanol 50% v/v

These worked for me, however I would again recommend before trying anything new to check any allergies and check with your doctor if you are ever unsure.


Rescue Remedy

I like saving the best till last of the supplements………………..

This rescued me from time to time (sorry about the cheesy line). However, I am not lying, this stuff has got me out of some pickles. Like I explained above I used to stress out about everything, my mind would worry about things that had not even happened yet.

Ever been there?

This stuff is packed full of natural ingredients to help calm in a great deal of situations. Let me tell you a few, it contains 5 flower essences, these include Rock Rose to alleviate terror and panic, Impatiens to mollify irritation and impatience, Clematis combat inattentiveness, Star of Bethlehem to ease shock, and Cherry Plum to calm irrational thoughts.Rescue Remedy

This comes in a very convenient little bottle as a drop form or in a handy little spray. If you are ever in a time when you are stressing and worry about things this used to be my turn too little bottle.

With anything there is always some sort of side effects as anything will affect some different to others and these do include:

There you have it. Like I said before I used to be a person that over thought pretty much every little thing. I would never have been able to write an article like this. I would still be worrying about how it would read, what topics I should write about, will I have enough to write about and this would go on and on.

These are 4 things that have helped me in the past and helped me greatly. I would always say though, go for natural as much as you can first.

With that in mind, the two supplements I have spoken about are some of the most natural remedies I have come across and the two that have helped me most.

Always remember as well, supplements or remedies should never be relied on and you should never become dependent on them.

    I’ve been having trouble sleeping through the night. I’m going to try turning off my devices early and if that doesn’t work I’m going to try something like the Kalms.
    I also like to keep things natural.

      Thank you for your kind comments, I would always suggest using natural methods first however, Kalms are one the of the methods I have used myself and I thought they were great.

  2. How did you learn proper meditation? That’s been hard for me to do as well I guess because I’ve never been properly shown. I have a time falling asleep because my mind races and plays the day over and over again when I’m in bed.
    For the Kalms did you take it during the day or try it at night first? Which of the two do you prefer? And last question (sorry:)) Where do you recommend I buy them?

    1. Hi Jennifer,

      I learned meditation by watching various videos on You Tube to be honest. It is good to practice before you sleep as it can help you have a bit more control. Regarding Kalms, I personally used the day Kalms, however it is really down to you own preference. You should be able to get them from a health store, however, I will put a link above as well for you.

  3. Great herbs that help with stress and anxiety are ones that contain Levodopa – an amino acid that directly crosses the blood-brain barrier and elevates dopamine levels. Mucuna Pruriens is one such herb.
    Other manners are herbs that have an effect of the MAO-A and B enzymes these are the enzymes that reduce dopamine, by counter acting MAO A or B enzyme dopamine levels are sustained at a higher level – great herb for that is He Shou Wu.

    Incidentally speaking, the inhibition of the MAO (monoamine Oxide) A and B enzymes is EXACTLY how Pharmaceutically produced anti depressants function.
