After trying various brands of Protein Powders, some of which do not taste the best. I was always curious about ‘How to make Protein Powder Taste Better’.

You see this is where a great deal of people go wrong, they read the tub which normally states something along the lines of 1-2 scoops with 8-10 oz of water, milk or juice. I would never recommend juice, not a good mix. Most of us will normally mix it with water, which is the first go to choice as it’s the easiest. Water is very bland and can make the shake not taste very good. Milk on the other hand I found is the way to go, this turns it into a nice milkshake. I would also suggest Almond Milk as well, this is one of my own favourites as you don’t need to keep it cold so it can be easily stored in your gym bag which can help to make your Protein Powder taste better at the gym.

This is really if you are using a protein shake as a breakfast and want to spice it up a bit. Protein Powder is very versatile in regard to what you can put in it. If you enjoy having a smoothie in the morning packed with fruit and vegetables, why not try adding some Protein Powder into the mix, depending on what your favourite flavor is, it can add a nice chocolate taste to your morning breakfast. Mix, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, bananas, and various other fruit.

Compare Protein Powders

When buying Protein Powders it can be a bit of a headache as there is so many brands and so many supermarkets and various other companies jumping on the band wagon. Now I have tried various different brands in my time and some do taste awful and leave a horrible after-taste which is not what you want. First of all I would always try to avoid supermarket own brands although they are cheap, they taste awful, I would always stick to branded products that have been around for a long time, and you will find that they taste a whole lot nicer as well.

These are some of the Protein Powders I found were best:

Optimum Nutrition Gold StandardGold Standard

PhD Whey Protein

Maxi Whey Protein

My Protein Impact Whey

These are I would say are the better ones out there. Always just check the labels for any allergy advice.

Final Thoughts

Like I said there are hundreds of Protein Powders on the market and there will be more coming out I am sure. However, when choosing a powder remember never to go for the cheap stuff. Trust me on this it does not taste good. I would also recommend staying away from the unflavoured, tried this once and never again, not a pleasant experience.

Read the nutrition advice on the tub and check any additives as some will have more than others and also check the sugar content, you will want this to be a little as possible.

  1. This article hit home with me. I drink a protein smoothie, probably once a week. I’ve had some nasty protein powders! I agree with you that water and the powder is too tasteless. Adding it to milk or a smoothie is best. Then when I add fruit, I forget that it’s healthy! Chocolate is my favorite flavor. Do you have a preference on flavors? Should we be drinking protein drinks before or after a workout?

      Thank you for your comments, I would have to say chocolate is definitely one of my favourites, I also like from time to time cookie and cream, but just as a treat as it have to much sugar content. I would also ways suggest a shake post workout as this is the best time to feed your fatigued muscles and helps for better repair.
