Best Supplements for Weight Loss

Articles

It can be a pretty big mine field when it comes to this, it can be a question of, do I really need to be spending money on these supplements? Or before I start spending my money what are the best supplements for weight loss and what will I need in order to help me lose weight.

The answer is really, no. Supplements should never replace a healthy balanced diet and you should aim to be getting the majority of your nutrition from whole foods. However, supplementation is there to bridge that gap. Especially of you are looking to lose weight you will inevitably be doing more exercise, which will mean your body will be in need of even better nutrition. This will mean the need to get a little addition I feel is even more essential.

Over this article I will go over what I feel are the best supplement for weight loss and what I feel are essential to help achieve your goal.

Multi-Vitamin

I have gone over this in a previous article, however, I do feel having a Multi-Vitamin is one of the most essential supplements not only for weight loss, I feel it essential for any fitness goal. When trying to achieve a weight loss goal you will likely be putting your body through its paces, which means you will be doing more exercise so your body will be crying out for the essential vitamins and minerals it need to keep going. Whilst we do get this from the food that we eat, we may not be able to get all these vitamins. So having a good quality Multi-Vitamin in the morning is a perfect way of bridging that gap.

Whey Protein

Perfect if you are trying to lose weight It has been shown that this particular protein can help lessen your appetite Whey Proteinwhilst maintaining muscle mass. So if you are trying to shift a few pounds then this is definitely something I would suggest adding to your plan. This is one of the most popular protein powders on the market and quite readily available. This is a milk based protein and is perfect as a meal replacement on the go. As also whey protein is easily absorbed by the body it is often used to help muscle recovery straight after exercise.

Omega 3 - Fish OilFish Oil – Omega 3

One of the most common supplements currently on the market. While it is rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids is can also offer some health benefits including heart and brain health. If you are following a weight loss/fat loss program then Omega-3 Fish Oil may also help keep you fuller for longer. Fish Oil may also increase your metabolism which in turn will help burn more fat and also help burn more fat during exercise.

Green Tea Extracts

You may not believe this however, green tea is one of the most commonly drunk teas around the world. Whilst it has some incredible health benefits and is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients. The benefits of this not only include brain function, it can also help with your weight loss/fat loss goals. Whilst drinking Green Tea is very beneficial to Green Teaaid weight loss you would need to consume an awful lot of tea. Which is why I would suggest a Green Tea Extract instead as well as it is a concentrated dose and can help increase the number of calories your body burns through thermogenesis.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to getting into shape, so many people think about weight loss however, we should be focusing less on weight loss and more on fat loss. The reason for this is whilst trying to get into shape we will be increasing the level of exercise, while we are doing this we are likely to be increasing muscle mass. Muscle mass is denser than fat so while we are losing fat/size we are gaining muscle, which means whilst you look slimmer the scales may not tell you the whole picture.

So just a little tip if your are following a weight loss/fat loss program it is worth taking before and after picture and measurements, as this will give you help see your progress a little more accurately.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions the drop me a comment.

  1. Thank you for this post, found some useful information here, especially about the green tea extract. I had no idea such a thing was available on the market, I’d be very happy to give it a go as I’ve read about the benefits of green tea but also do not fancy drinking gallons of green tea daily.

    1. Hi Martina, thank you for your kind comments, I am the same as green tea is not the best tasting in the world so having something to get the goodness in is great.

    2. Hi Martina, Thank you for your kind comments, yes having green tea extracts is a great alternative to drinking green tea, however I do indulge in a cup from time to time.

  2. Great post, I’m big gym enthusiast myself and about five years ago I was overweight and tried all of your mentioned supplements for weight loss and I can just agree that they all can be very beneficial for weight loss. My favorites are omega 3 and whey protein, but because I love green tea, I have at least one cup a day too. I have noticed that for me increasing healthy fats, like avocado or olives, helped to lose weight to and gain more muscle mass. Thank you for sharing!

  4. I love the fact you stuck with the basics and didn’t mention any potentially dangerous thermogenics that are usually marketed as fat burners. Nope, just the good-old fashioned staples, which I respect and these are all supplements that I would’ve recommended for my own clients.

Being a personal trainer, okay, a personal trainer who is currently on hiatus, I had to answer far too many questions regarding thermogenics, and while my clients were initially disappointed in the fact I often recommended what you have above, they were glad to see that, in time, their investment in the basics paid off.

    1. Hi Todd,

Thank you for your kind comments, I am glad you found value in my post. When it comes to nutrition and health only the good old fashioned ones never go out of fashion.

  5. At one point I was up to 234 pounds and was able to get down to 185 at one point. I’m starting to creep back up again, though.
Something that people don’t realize is that just a simple change in what one eats can help you to lose weight. Its great to have supplements because you definitely don’t want to short change your body and the necessities.
The other is to not to try to lose weight fast, it never works long term because once you’ve lost your weight you tend to go back to the old habits and then you do the yo-yo with your weight.
Have a great day and thanks for providing this information!

    1. Hi Les

Thank you for your kind comments, well done on losing the weight, that is a great achievement. Always remember 70-80% of losing weight or gain muscle is what we eat.

I am glad you enjoyed my post and there will be more great stuff coming soon.

  6. I found some good information here. I love the omega-3 because I have chronic dry eyes and it helps. I need to drop about 30 pounds to get right side up but I hate the gym. I prefer to walk its more refreshing. I am glad spring has arrived.

    1. Hi Cherry

Thank you for your comments, When is comes to exercise, you have to make sure it is something you enjoy otherwise it is very hard to sustain it. However try workout outside as this does also have some amazing benefits as well. Your level of Serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that helps to regulate one’s mood, rises in the outdoors.

There is loads of great stuff coming soon.
